Robyn began her fiber journey 20 years ago as a fiber animal raiser & hand-spinner. She was raising 2 young, very active boys & felt that she needed a regular source of income, so the fiber mill dream was put on hold.. Since her boys are now raised, she decided to pursue her long-time dream of owning a fiber mill. Little did she know how much she still had to learn to operate commercial mill equipment! Kalaya Farms is a family owned business that processes fiber, specializing in rare breeds. It took better than a year to assemble mill equipment in the Bitterroot Valley – it’s heavy stuff! Since we also raise high quality Gotland crosses, Leicester Longwools, Angora Goats and Alpacas, it took finding a shop with acreage and lots of head room.

Our interest is in providing a value added service to natural fiber producers. Natural fiber products are available in clean, high quality roving and yarns. Our main objective is to strengthen and diversify the agricultural industry by development of alternative marketing options for fiber producers.

Located in Florence, MT, incoming fleeces are weighed, tagged and evaluated for processing requirements. The owner's name and custom instructions stay with the fleece throughout the entire process, ensuring that you will always get your own fiber returned to you.

Our carder and spinning frame were custom designed for high quality processing of long staple and rare sheep breeds. Lucky because Robyn raises them as well! We have particular interest in special processing needs such as marketing and custom color blends.
