Front Page President Report Secretary Report Fall Conference Winning Artwork Wooly Bee Farm Traveling With Elaine Classifieds ____________________________________________________________________________ Leicester Longwools at Garfield Farm Museum Rare Breeds Exhibit Day Wooly Bee Farm, owned by member Sue Ziller of Woodstock Illinois is
pleased to announce her participation in Garfield Farm Museum Rare Breeds Exhibit Day to be held on May
18, 2008. Garfield Farm is an 1840's Living History Farm located in Geneva, Illinois which offers
classes, lectures and scheduled events throughout the calendar year. Breeders from around the Midwest
display rare and historic types of livestock. Individual breeders may offer livestock and poultry for
sale. Participation is through the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.
Sue plans on taking some yearling ewes, weanling lambs and a ram. Her flock comes from
Joan Henry of Grazing Herd and Kelly Smith of Hopping Acres and Julie Mathis of Heritage Hill
Farm. She feels like her new flock should be a fine representation of the Leicester Longwools.
A Very Special Invitation submitted by Sue Ziller / Wooly Bee Farm In February, Sue Ziller of Wooly Bee Farm accepted an invitation from
Joan Henry of Grazing Herd to come out a spend a weekend at her farm during lambing season. This was
Joan's way of helping Sue heal after the loss of her flock to a tragic barn fire in January.
Much to Joan's frustration, her ewes did not start lambing while Sue was there. There was however
a lot of activity up the road at Hopping Acres where lambing was just getting under
way. Sue found out that when the phone rang at Joan's and Kelly was on the other end saying "I've
got a water bag!" that it was actually code for "Get the *@# up here !!"
Kelly taught Sue a few things about post lambing care with the lambs so it was a great learning
experience in that respect.
On their last night together, Joan made a wonderful pork roast dinner while Kelly brought her
famous Pumpkin Cheesecake and Farm Fresh Green Beans and bacon to the table.
Dinner was enjoyed by all and it was a perfect ending to a perfect weekend.
Thank you Joan and Kelly from the bottom of my heart, it meant more to me than you'll ever
know.....
